I'm Valerie W. Freeman
The stationery designer and Etsy strategist behind Betty Lu Paperie.
I aspire to produce beautiful yet functional stationery for brides and to share my journey to success with creative entrepreneurs.
I live in southern Alabama with my husband, baby boy and our dog, Brinkley. I am blessed enough to work from home, but that did not come without first having a myriad of other jobs from telemarketing to waiting tables to retail. It took a long time to get here, but I finally made it! I work as much as I can and as often as I can to grow my brand, and I try to learn new things daily. I hope to inspire you as well–whether you're a bride looking for the perfect invite or an entrepreneur looking to start or expand your own business.
I opened my Etsy shop in May of 2013 with little working knowledge of graphic design. I designed my own wedding stationery, and everyone from my wedding planner to my mom told me I should go into business. At first, I thought it would be a great way to earn some extra cash.
Within a little over two years, I was able to quit my day job and work from home.
Designing wedding stationery was never what I had planned for my life. I was supposed to live in New York City and work at Vogue. Thankfully, God had better things in store for me than getting coffee and working for pennies.
When I'm not working, I spend hours pouring over Pinterest and chasing my toddler. I enjoy bubble baths, Italian food and binge watching Netflix shows with my husband. I'm not embarrassed to say that mom is my best friend and my rock, and my absolute favorite time of the year is the holiday season.

Who is Betty Lu?
Betty Lou was my great aunt, my maternal grandfather's sister. She was a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice, a wonderful hostess and a fantastic cook. Unfortunately, she was in an emotionally abusive marriage until her death.
Betty Lu Paperie was created in her honor–"Lu" being shortened to make it easier for clients to remember. Her favorite flowers were birds of paradise, which are sketched in the logo.
A portion of proceeds are donated to Joyce Meyer Ministries in her honor.
